BAND BIO
I guess this all started in the mid '80s when Nora answered an ad Gil ran for a backup singer for a road band to promote a solo LP he'd just completed in Phila. PA. "It didn't take me too long to realize Nora had way too much talent to be backing me up so she went to the front and things just grew from there". Later that year Gil left to run sound for one of the "Beatlemania" tours that followed the origonal. When the tour went through S.E. Florida he was offered a soundman / DJ job at the old Brickyard West Club in Ft. Lauderdale and Gil accepted. Gil & Nora were married in his mothers back yard in PA a couple of months later and to Florida they came.
After a 6 month period of extensive partying on a mini-Cigarette boat Gil bought as wedding present they formed their 1st S.E. Florida band "FIREWORKS". That lasted until their son Carl was born and they retired from the biz "to do the right thing" raising their son. Once Carl got old enough they got back into music forming "ONE-EYED CAT" with Ernie Southern on bass and Chris Cotte on drums. Ernie went on to establish himself as a solo artest playing a mean Dobro while Gil & Nora continued on performing locally as a duo that produced two ONE-EYED CAT CDs; "Blue Attitude" & "Undercats" with Gil playing the majority of the instruments. That was followed with another attempt at a full band resulting in the short lived "DEMONS of SOUL".
After another period of inactivity Gil was asked in early '08 to play drums on some sessions for Capt. Ed Kister the founder of Gils 1st band, Mercury recording artists "SOUTH MOUNTAIN RAILROAD COMPANY". All of a sudden Gil was reunited with his major musical love (next to Nora of course he he) the drums and after those sessions Gil started woodshedding getting the chops back that made him a sought after session & live drummer on both coasts from the '60s thru mid '80s. That got Nora wanting to get out singing again and she proposed a new band to Gil. "Sure, but I'm sticking to my drums this time, the instrument I was always the best at and it has to be fun".
"49 FORD" was formed and the name was taken from their most popular recording they wrote for the Blue Attitude CD about Gils 1st car........of course a 49 Ford. After a couple of lineup changes they met Larry a great soul inspired bassist and vocalist in his own right at a jam and immediately hit it off. Larry suggested Dave Crisp a guitarist he had been working with for years with in Blue Avenue and they all hit it off famously. With Gil & Larry sporting musical resumes spanning 35+ years each and Daves Steve Cropper styled efficient guitar these guys know how to lay down some serious grooves giving Nora a solid platform for her high energy vocals.
